This particular tip is more of a common sense practice than anything but is frequently overlooked. When shipping a tube amplifier always remove it’s tubes and pack them in bubble wrap. Many manufacturers ship their amplifiers with the tubes installed because of time and cost issues with hopes that the glass bottles of the tubes will not break during shipping. Maybe it is more cost effective to replace tubes than to wrap tubes for shipment. If you are buying a tube amp from an ebay auction or an online dealer make a request to have the tubes removed and packed in bubble wrap. The tubes can be transported in the back of a combo amp or inside a head cabinet during shipping. This practice is especially important if your are shipping an amp with N.O.S. tubes. Some of these tubes are expensive and packing them could save a glass bottle disaster!
