Here is the end result of a restoration of a late 1962 Fender Stratocaster. This particular example has the curved “veneer” rosewood fret board as opposed to the earlier slab type fret board. The guitar is 100% original except for the finish. When I received the guitar it was a similar blue color with refinished neck and replaced decal. The entire finish was thick and very glossy and I believe it was an acrylic lacquer of some sort. The body was sent to Eric at Revelator Guitars for an aged Sonic Blue nitrocellulose lacquer finish. While the body was being re-finished I was busy re-fretting and re-finishing the neck. In the end the guitar looked, played and sounded amazing. I still love working on vintage guitars…particularly Fender’s!!
