Guitar Tone Capacitors
One of the simplest, effective mods you can do to your guitar “on the cheap” is to experiment with tone capacitors. In this article you will find out what a tone cap is and how it works. Also how will different values affect the sound of my guitar? What do the pots have to do with the tone caps? These are some good questions and the answers will help you select values and give an idea of how they will affect the overall tone of your guitar before you start to solder. This is an easy way to modify your guitar.

Once again, a great article. I’ve been wondering what would be an easy way to experiment with the sound of my guitars.
Thank you!
Hey Josh- Thanks for the kinds words. This is easy to do and can change your guitars response. What kind of guitar are you going to experiment with? -Billy
Hey Billy,
I have a Fender Lead 2 guitar that has been modded. Someone put a seymour dunccan razor humbucker in the bridge pickup cutout. This guitar came stock with two fender single coils and a three way toggle. The problem is that it also came with a phase switch that alters the center position (both pickups) config, or both stock single coils. I dont like the sound of the phase switch, or even want it. What if I were to remove it from the system? Would it still sound the same? Would I still have the three selections of “single coil in neck, humbucker in the rear, and bth in the middle position?
I think you can remove it but you would have to connect the wires that you take off the switch terminals and connect them together for the non-out of phase sound. Do you understand my explanation? You cant just remove the switch and let the wires just hang in space because they are part of the pickup leads. If you want you can email me a drawing and I may be able to tell you what to do….. Let me know and keep me posted. -Billy
Yes, I know what you mean. I will put togather some images and some drawings. Stand by buddy, and thanks for the help.
